Designed a UPS with customized Circuit Board for my 3D printer to optimize power distribution with near zero battery parasitic draw. The UPS achieved an 8x longer runtime than standard desktop UPSs and has years of shelf life, driven by my determination to improve reliability and efficiency.
Despite the first power cycling issue faced by my initial lithium-ion based UPS, I soon learned that my attempt to fully rely on the Battery Protection Board caused a major overcurrent issue. As a turning point, I began to develop a custom power distribution relay circuits that automatically switches between mains and battery mode, enabling the internal Constant Current Charge Controller to regulate the battery's current. Through this experience, it taught me the experience that solutions should always be optimized for specific applications instead of relying solely on existing modules to carry the workload.
